Embraer embarks on rolling tour of new ERJ 190 jet

5 June 2001

Embraer, Brazil's largest commercial aircraft manufacturer and largest exporter, has kicked off a sales and marketing tour of 12 US cities to showcase its ERJ 190 jet to potential US customers.

Embraer is demonstrating the ERJ 190 in what may be the largest piece of aircraft fuselage ever mocked-up inside an 18-wheel truck.

"We are extremely excited about this unique way to display the ERJ 190,'' says Mark Hale, vice president of sales and marketing at Embraer for the US, Canada and Caribbean. "We believe this is the first time a major manufacturer has provided its customers with a hands-on view of what an advanced aircraft will offer consumers in the very near future.''

The ERJ 190 will start revenue services in 2004 and promises to provide optimal performance coupled with uncompromising passenger comfort and unbeatable economics.

Embraer ERJ 145 XR enters its final stage of certification

22 April 2002

The first series production unit of Embraer's ERJ 145 XR, the newest version of the jet commuter aircraft family produced in Brazil, has entered its final stage of certification activities. Delivery of this aircraft to Continental Express, its launch customer, will take place next October.

The 50 seat, extra range jet (hence its "XR" designation) is an addition to the ERJ 145 family, now offered with three versions of the model, each designed to suit specific airline needs. Fuel capacity and design weights differentiate each model, to provide operator versatility in maximum range and payload.

The main visual difference between the new aircraft and previous models is the existence of winglets, which diminish turbulence at wing tips, thus reducing fuel consumption while increasing flight range. The new 145 XR is equipped with Rolls-Royce AE3007 A1E engines, with an increase of 17% in thrust compared to the AE3007 A1 engines that equip the ERJ 145 LR model, and with an auxiliary fuel tank with a capacity increase of 1,000 liters, allowing a maximum range of 2,000 nautical miles, or 3,600 kilometres.

Continental Express has placed firm orders for 104 units of the new model, and a further 100 orders is subject to confirmation.

The first ERJ 145 XR production aircraft, identified as S/N 590, has already undergone its first flight and is at present being submitted to vibration tests on the ground. This phase of the programme is to be followed by the flight tests, which will include flutter, high speed and fuel systems.

Certification of the new ERJ 145 XR is expected for next September, just prior to first delivery.
