As noted in AVweb's Newswire, an explosion Wednesday, April 7, during a routine pressurization test scattered debris for 100 yards and severed the tail section on a USAF tanker undergoing maintenance at Tinker AFB, Okla. The Boeing KC-135R suffered major damage but fortunately the three civilian technicians working on the plane were not injured, though we suspect they may have had to change their underwear after this one. The tanker, assigned to the 186th Refueling Wing of the Mississippi ANG, was in the last stages of a maintenance and repair stop at Tinker. Now, of course, it will be under maintenance for a bit longer.
