Greeks order Eurofighter Typhoon

DSD learned this morning that the Greeks have decided to order Eurofighter Typhoon.

In a brief statement following today's KYSEA (Defence & Foreign Affairs Committee) meeting in Athens, the Hellenic Minister of Defence, Akis Tsochatzopoulos confirmed his Government's order for 60 Eurofighter Typhoon with an option for an additional 30 aircraft, to a total budget of Ј3.8 billion (DM 10 billion).

The Greek announcement for up to 90 Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft chalks up the first export order for the Eurofighter Consortium. The tally for Eurofighter orders now amount to 710 aircraft.

Significantly the Greek order for Eurofighter Typhoon is likely to be viewed as a clear demonstration of confidence in this 4th generation 'swing role' aircraft, an aircraft that has yet to enter service.

Second, it is likely to reinforce expectations that Norway will harden up on its deliberations and decide on Eurofighter. It has already a declared interest in 20 aircraft with options for a further 10 for delivery over the period 2005 - 2007.

Now that Greece has today declared its hand, DSD believes there are compelling reasons for the Norwegians to declare their intent quite soon. With an on-going active interest in the Eurofighter programme, plus the chance of joining an enlarged European consortium, Norway is well poised to take the next step.

In terms of the Greek procurement of F-16 aircraft, the Hellenic Government have decided to sign a Letter of Acceptance by the end of this week; listing open points on the aircraft's weapon systems, self-protection system and engine - i.e. those points the Greeks remain undecided about.

5. Тайфун это официальное название?

DASA сообщает, что поставка первого серийного Еврофайтера ожидается во второй половине 2001 г.
На Еврофайтер имеется 620 заказов
На Рафаль 48.

Интересно сравнить эти две машины. Никто не желает? )

Сравнить было бы интересно, а то скучно (по Су-25/А-10 заглохло, на людей работа навалилась . Но лично у меня инфы мало. Можно было бы сравнить с последними модификациями МиГ-29.
