I, for one, know about two dozen former Nazis living in the USA. One is a woman who was 16 when the war ended and she was an aircraft spotter for the Luftwaffe.

She told me that all of Germany knew they had made an error in electing Adoph Hitler by 1942, but the first thing Hitler did when he got in power was to disarm the population, so they couldn't do anythihg about it. By the time she joined the Nazi party, you HAD to in order to eat, and no civilians had guns. When she surrendered at the end of WWII, they took her to England with about 300 other girls and held them in a prison camp for about 2 months. She said the guards were all men from the US and British Armies and they rotated about every half day or day. And they didn't want the girls to get lice or anything, so they made them shower 2 or 3 times a day naked while they were closely watched ...

Anyway, after 2 months, the US Army figured they weren't dangerous, so they let them go home to Germany. Many were pregnant ...

Have you ever read "Soviet Combat Aircraft of the Second World War,Volume One: Single-Engined Fighters" by Yefim Gordon & Dmitri Khazanov?

What I'm getting at is the Gordon/Khazhanov book relied on recently declassified Soviet documnets for it's reference materials.The LA-7 for instance had some pretty good problems with it's engines along with wing problems tracked down to reduced density in the spars. In fact the LA-7 was grounded for a few weeks in 10/44 because of these problems. I think it was the LA-5 whoose wing surface tore off when using augmented power. From what I've been able to gleem from sources Soviet engines suffered a rather high failure rate compared to say thier Western Allied/German counterparts . Now that being said I will allude to what I said before about lack of certain materials along with more hurried production schedule as being the culprit. If the designs had better accesss to materials and had a better production schedule then the problems would have been far less. It's also very reasonable to assume that Western Allied/German mettallurgy was ahead of the Soviets at this time.A good example is the light wieght alloys the Western allies supplied the SU with during the war.
The reason I bring all this up is that all the debate of a speed of say LA-5 or LA-7 speed compared to a FW-190 using the Soviet plane's augmented power maybe mute because of structural/engine problems some Soviet aircraft had . Way back in this thread there is some posting about this very thing but I don't know which page. I'm not knocking the Yak's & Lavochin's they are excellent fighters and it is unfair that there weren't better access to materials and more time to build them.

Як-9 был последним советским истребителем потерянным, и в то же время последним, который одержал воздушную победу во II-й мировой войне. 15 августа 1945 года десять Як-9 из 19-го ИАП, входящего в 10 АДПБ (Дивизия пикирующих бомбардировщиков) морской авиации Тихоокеанского флота провели воздушный бой с двумя J2M Raiden, и в 13 часов 33 минуты, старший лейтенант Животовский сбил одного из них.

Четырьмя часами позже, в 17 часов 08 минут, двенадцать Як-9 из этой же части опять вступили в бой с двумя другими Raidenaми и одного сбили. Причины потери двух Як-9 из состава ВВС Тихоокеанского флота, до сих пор не ясны. 13 августа 1945 года они не возвратились из разведывательного полета над Японским морем. Последним был потерян Як-9 авиации Северной эскадры Тихоокеанского флота. Он был сбит огнем зенитной артиллерии над Сахалином тремя днями позднее.
