"This particular gun may very well be the ONLY one of its type which exists. The StG44 story is well known — how Hitler specifically ordered that it not be developed or produced because he wanted no additional strain put on the German logistics system — only to eventually (after it had already been developed as the MP44) approve it and, indeed, personally name it the Sturmgewehr 44(assault weapon of 1944). What is much less well known is that a more advanced model (the StG45) was developed by the Germans as the follow-on to the StG44. After an endurance test at the Mauser works two prototype StG45s were subjected to a second endurance trial. As a result of the favorable results Mauser received an order to manufacture 30 additional StG45s for troop trials. However, the Mauser factory was attacked on February 22, 1945 by Allied fighter-bombers destroying major parts of the factory and disrupting completion of the 30 StG45s. Thereafter, as part of a last ditch attempt to keep Germany's armaments production from falling into Allied hands all of the design drawings, important records and machinery were crated up and put on board a 29 car special railway train. The train with 200 engineers and workers departed the Mauser factory the night of April 19-20, 1945. Upon reaching the alpine town of Innsbruck no attempt to unload the train or resume production was made due to the imminent collapse of the Third Reich. On May 25, 1945 a joint British and American intelligence team investigating the Mauser factory discovered that the StG45 prototypes and records had vanished. On June 1, 1945 the joint intelligence team discovered the Mauser-Train. They discovered the 30 unassembled sets of components for the StG45 but the original prototypes remained missing. Well, here sixty years after it was spirited out of war torn Germany, and eventually registered during the '68 amnesty — the original StG45 prototype is out of the closet. What a find! The gun is still in the white and obviously the product of the finest German toolroom craftsmanship. The magazine which is hand made has every rib depression carefully crafted. Truly a magnificent piece! Even more significant is the fact that, in light of the above history, this very StG45 — as shown in the picture — was the pioneer of the famous roller locking system so successfully implemented even to this day by Heckler and Koch. This NFA weapon obviously qualifies for Curio and Relic status and all NFA rules apply. Contact seller for any clarification you may desire. Any sale is specifically conditioned on the buyer's physical examination of the StG45 at seller's location.
